Good Deeds and Kindness

All-age worship, a loose framework for a discussion with children and families. Includes print-outs to make Kindness Jars filled with Good Deeds!

Today, I want to talk to you about something very simple, but very powerful: kindness.

There are some clues to what it is in these jars. Would you like to take one each?

Take a piece of paper - what can you see?

How are these people treating each other?

These are Kindness Jars. There are lots of little pictures in here for you to colour in, and some blank ones for you to draw a picture or write about something kind that you have done, or a way that someone has been kind to you.

Shall we take a quick look at another picture?

In the Bible, Jesus tells His friends something very important. He says:
"Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you should love one another." (John 13:34)

That means we are called to treat each other the way Jesus treats us: with love, gentleness, and care. It means helping someone when they’re sad, sharing even when it’s hard, and using kind words, even when you're upset.

Sometimes, the Bible might look really big and complicated — it’s a lot of pages!

But really, it all comes down to something very simple: be kind.
God doesn’t ask very much of us at all. Just this: love Him, love others, and live kindly.

The prophet Micah gives us a little list of what God wants from us. He says:
"Do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God." (Micah 6:8)

That’s pretty easy to remember:
Do what’s right
Be kind
Stay close to God

So, when you see someone sitting alone, be kind and sit with them. When someone is hurt, be kind and help them. And when you don’t know what to do, ask Jesus to help you love like He does.

Now will be able to dip into your jar and see all of the kindness. Would you like to go and colour in some more of these pictures?

Because kindness isn’t just being nice; it’s how we show God’s love to the world.

Let’s go and be kind today!
